I have an 8891-CTO T61P with the DVD-ROM/CDRW ultrabay drive. I have had problems watching DVDs on the system from day one. I first had artifacting and program freezing with the pre-loaded version of WinDVD. I upgraded to WinDVD 8, thinking that might solve the problem.
It didn't.
It got worse...now I can repeatably lockup WinDVD (40% of the time) and BSOD the whole system (60% of the time) by playing any commercial DVD. When the BSOD occurs, the information screen says that nv4_disp is caught in an infinite loop. I have also tested an old copy of NVDVD 2.55 with the same results, and swapped out the DVD drive I purchased with a combo DVDRW/CDRW from a T42p, again with the same results. Has anyone else had this problem?
Viewing DVDs on T61p causes BSOD infinite loop in nv4_disp

The problem is not your DVD player but it's the display drivers Windows is complaining about.
The fix is if you don't have the latest drivers from lenovo then update them 1st but if you do then use drivers from Windows update or nVidia website.
