Upgrading BMDC and Atheros Wifi to an X30

#1 Post by Harryc » Thu Mar 20, 2008 9:31 pm

In an X30 with Bluetooth and Wifi factory installed, I want to remove the 802.11b wifi/modem mPCI combo and replace it with the 802.11b/g mPCI card linked below. Then I want to install the Bluetooth/Modem BMDC200 card linked below replacing the existing Bluetooth CDC card. The plan is to keep the modem and bluetooth features while upgrading wireless to 802.11b/g. Any thoughts or experiences with this upgrade or on using these specific parts?

Since nobody replied, I decided to go for it. Parts will be here in a few days. More to come ...

Well, tonight I got half way there, but not with the original WiFi card I ordered (required the no-1802 hack). I noticed in the latest X30 BIOS (1.09) is Support for the IBM 11bg Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter. So I ordered up a 93P3475. It is an Atheros based card normally found in T40's, very nice card. Installed it and off it went, no hack required. I used the X31 11bg driver. Next project is to replace the Bluetooth card with a BMDC200 card, but it is not a priority because I could care less about a modem at the moment.

I'm afraid the BDMC won't do since this card throws an "more than one network card installed" error on my X30. And I found no way to fix that. Sorry for this news.

Brgds, Torsten.

Not really bad news for me personally because I don't use a modem. All it really means to me is that I need to hold onto the modem card for resale purposes (in case I ever decide to sell the T30), but thanks for the information.
