Anyone have any problem w/ LCD hitting the keyboard?

#1 Post by mangu43 » Fri Mar 21, 2008 12:32 am

Hey there all, just got my t61p about two months ago and have noticed these awful scratches showing up on the lcd, and have figured it out that its the keys pressing against the LCD. So, I was just curious if any of you have encountered this problem, and if so, if you took any warranty action. I am sure that they won't warranty it, but, I am pretty annoyed about the fact that with normal use (i do carry it home from work everyday) that the minute pressure causes the lid to bow and scratch the key imprint into my lcd. this seems like a pretty obvious design flaw! I have the 15.4 widescreen.

I think i wished i would have gotten the t60 when the lid was still magnesium.

Thanks !

I miss the old style covers too.. with the little sparkles! =) ... Anyway, no issues for me yet with my t61, however they are screen protectors, and guards you can put on yours to protet it from scratches, not the simple film ones but the heavy duty couple mm thick ones.. but the deisng of thinkpad is supposed to prevent the screen from touching the keyboard.. do you have any loose keys or ones that are sticking up?

I have a T60 15.4 and a T60 15 and they both have keyboard/trackpoint marks on the lcd. In fact the 600x and T22 that I've used have the marks as well. I have a screen protector that I have on the 15.4 since that is my personal laptop.

If you don't like the marks then buy a screen protector. I got mine at shaggymac.com. I'm sure there are plenty of other sites that sell them.

I see trackpoint pressure mark on X31 but it has never happened on my 15" R51.

I've seen it happen on X-series thinkpads only, the trick in that machine's case is to use protective cover while carrying and not closing the display at the end of the day at your home.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
