x30 memory problem

#1 Post by giorgosgr » Fri Mar 21, 2008 9:34 am

I have an x30 with 512MB ram (2 x 256) but the last month most of the times (but not always) i can use only the half 256mb ram.
Is this somthing common witch i can fix or i should start looking for new main board.

Swap out the memory modules between the slots.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I have already tried without any resoults.
I have also tried each module stand alone in both slots the only problem was that some times in the first slot no matter wich module the laptop was not working

Memory slots do go bad once in a while. You have several options...

Get a pencil and gently run it across the memory contacts on both sides to remove residue/oxidation. Go carefully so not to slip and damage anything, then try the ram again. I guess I should mention grounding yourself first before touching the ram modules/motherboard. Although, running the eraser will generate static, I've never had a problem doing it, so ymmv.

edited... I had some nonsense here about 1gig ram module. The X30 only supports 512 in each slot... according to tawbook.
