Creating BackUp Disks...

#1 Post by Odyssey3 » Fri Mar 21, 2008 3:53 pm

I was just creating back-up disks on my new T61 for Vista Ultimate (32 bit) according to the Lenovo directions link below:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 68317.html

1. I placed a CD and burned a "Start Recovery Disk"
2. Next, I placed a DVD disc in the bay and burned: "Product Recovery Disk 1"

...and varying from what I have read here...

3. I was asked to place another disc in so I placed a 2nd DVD disc in and burned what I was told to label: "Product Recovery Disc 2"

Following the steps in the link above, I then tried the process all over again and was expecting to get a screen that told me I had already made my discs and was only allowed one copy (thus confirming the process had been done correctly)...instead, it appears to be burning another set. (I am hesitant to try this confirming step again).

Has anyone else had this experience? Is this normal? Can we actually burn more than one set of Recovery Discs or is something not right. (After the burn, each verifying process indicated all was okay).

Thank you!

I believe the option is disabled after the next system start.

Thank you for your reply!

I was wondering if that might be the case. I should have tried to burn a 3rd set when I could (I am currenty away and don't have accesss to my laptop to check).

Thanks again.

Once you have burned one set of disks, can't you simply make as many copies of the disks as you want, whenever you want using something like Nero or ImageBurn?
HP DV8t | Intel i7-Q 720 | 6GB (DDR3 1333) RAM | 1 TB (500GB Seagate 7200 rpm x2)| GeForce GT 230M (1GB) | 18.4" FHD | SuperMulti 8X w Lightscribe | FP Reader | Bluetooth | HDTV Tuner | Win 7 Ultimate x64. Backup: T61p (8891-CTO)

I'd like to know if you can just make copies of disks as well.

In fact, I'd also like to know if there is an easy way to put those same disks on an external hard drive so that I can just click on them and they "do their thing" installing themselves.

You have to actually boot the laptop from the boot CD that is created. Can't perform that operation by simply clicking on the files.
