Z61m - What capacity HD can it handle?

#1 Post by dejola » Fri Mar 21, 2008 8:40 pm

I'm going to replace the hard drive in my Z61m and would like to know if it will take a 120GB or even a 200GB hard drive. Has anybody installed one of those in a Z61m?

I called Thinkpad tech support. The tech didn't have a ready answer but suggested no bigger than a 120 for a 5400 rpm drive or 100 for a 7200 rpm drive. But he didn't sound convincing. Seemed to just be guessing.

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

If your BIOS is up-to-date then your Z61m can accept the biggest 2.5'' SATA HDD available today.

Thanks for your reply.

So, you have a Z61m and putting in the 250GB hard drive was no problem? Didn't have to modify anything? No resulting problems? Overheating?
Is your 250 a 5400 or 7200 rpm drive? What drive did you get?

Thanks again.

Thank you. I think I'll be getting one of those. Would the 7200 RPM present a problem, do you think? I read somewhere that there woulod be a 20 per cent speed advantage with the 7200.

Thanks again.

Possibly a benefit there might be, but I havnt noticed a difference, I have 2 gigs of RAM on my machine. If its slow or not its hard to tell.

Does anyone know how a new hard drive from Western Digital would affect APS?
