Fresh Install Windows XP - HDA Audio Bus Driver problem

I would like to share an experience on fresh installing Windows XP SP2 on T60 (not through the pre-loaded one), especially HDA Audio Bus Driver problem (Audio/SoundMax and Modem/Thinkpad Modem).

This experience might apply to those who cannot get their Audio Driver installed even after installing Q888111.

1. Please apply at least the Intel Chipset Support and Intel Matrix Storage Driver prior to install any other drivers).
2. Apply the KB888111 (can be obtained from IBM website, http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-68974) - install and restart
3. Download both Audio Driver and Modem Driver, and extract both (default will be c:\drivers\audio and c:\drivers\hdamodem)
4. Go to Device Manager's (Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager). Go to System Devices. Check if there is PCI Device with "?"
5. Double click the PCI Device with ? mark and go to Driver.
6. Click Update Driver
- No, not this time
- Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
- Search for the best driver in these locations
- Include this location in the search
- Browse to where you extract the modem driver (c:\drivers\hdamodem)
- Navigate to c:\drivers\hdamodem\win2kxp then click ok
- Next and complete the installation
7. It will install the modem driver, which will enable the HDA Bus Driver over Q888111
8. Restart the system
9. Install the Audio Driver (c:\drivers\audio)
10. Install the Modem Driver (c:\drivers\hdamodem)

Please note that step #9 will enable Soundmax drivers and its applications. Step #10 will install Thinkpad modem and some helpful applications (netwaiting and digital line detect). Step #6 does not install the modem driver properly, it just bind Q888111 and enable the HDA Bus Driver to be recognized by the Audio driver and later modem driver itself.
