DVDROM not recognizes after install reboot.

#1 Post by NautTboy » Sat Mar 22, 2008 10:00 pm

I have problem with my thinkpad dvdrom. When installing xp, it boots up into the dvdrom OK. After it copy files to HD and reboot, get message 'asms not found, please insert xp pro sp2 cd into dvd driive.' It turns out that the pc is not recognizing the dvd drive.
Now, this is only during the installing after reboot. It will recognize dvdrom after installation completed with I copy /i386 to HD and install.

Is there dvdrom bios that can be updated?

Ok, I think I have an idea of what might be the problem.

1. XP does not like this old DVD ROM.
2. DVD ROM is dying.

I'm leaning more toward #1 because DVDROM run almost 99% in dos mode. Only during installation that it won't read. Tho after installation, it will read. Wierd!

Anyone know how I can find out what make/model of this DVDROM would be greatful. Linux recognized it as Toshiba. This is DVDROM from iSERIES 1400 2621-460.

Then, I will try and see if I can find an updated firmware for it.
