Ready for wireless N! What do you recommend?

#1 Post by Crunch » Sun Mar 23, 2008 9:15 am

Hey everyone...I'm looking for a good card/router (Access Point?) combination that I should get...What do you guys recommend?

Some say the Linksys 600N works great. I do have the Atheros a/b/g/n card, but it's not installed yet, so until that's done, I want to get a PCMCIA or Express card, too.

Also, currently, I am connected to a modem/router combo. Would I be able to just plug in an N-capable Access Point?

Thanks all!!!!!!!

Is 'n' really worth it?

Honestly, as I've said in another post, I don't feel that 'n' class wireless is worth it. I don't think you'll get anywhere near the advertised performance, especially in an area where there's already lots of other wireless devices around.

This is because all 'n' does, unless I'm greatly mistaken, is grab ALL the available wireless channels it can and aggregate them into one pipe.

It's your $$, but personally, I think you'd be better off going with regular 'g' class, or even 802.11a. Hardly anyone uses that band, so you probably wouldn't have a lot of competition for its channels (unless you live downtown in the core of a big city).

Happy tweaking.

Which is why 802.11n Draft 2.0 does use it!

Cheers,
