Conflicting readings using "auto detect warranty"
Conflicting readings using "auto detect warranty"
Iam getting different readings using the auto detect features on IBMS site. It detects the right model and right serial as printed on the bottom of my machine but keeps reading the wrong type.
I have 2678-a11 and it keeps detecting 2678-d4u.
what do I go by, and what you think is happening here? The reason this is an issue is because the a11 which is what I have printed has a year longer warranty then the d4u.

If you go into Thinkpad Configuration and click on System Information - what does it show for the type and model number?
Also, have you done a manual lookup of the warranty info bypassing the autodetect feature?
Was the motherboard ever changed?

Hey zd thank you for the reply. I dont have the configuration and bypassing the autodetect gives me an extra year on warranty. This is when I punch in my numbers manually.
I just also noticed that Auto detect gives different numbers then Auto warranty detect.
Auto detect reads 2687-D4U
Warranty detect reads 2687-DRU
I have 2678-a11 on my label,
so I misread the model as well with all the confusion. I just purchased this so not sure what work was done in the past. The head of the screws on the bottom reveal some work was possibly done. So the auto detect is only detecting the right serial and the wrong type and model.
Also the auto detect specs of 2687 D4u reads a 15 inch display and I have a 14 inch display as the 2678-a11 also reads.
I will call tomorrow and find out whats going on and the status on the warranty.
Here are both links for those who are interested.

I just used system update to download system configuration. When it was asking me if it can send my user info to retrieve the appropriate software. The system update sent 2687D4U.
After I installed and ran system configuration, the system information reads my label on the bottom of the machine which is 2678A11. I tried to use system update again and it still sends my user info as 2687D4u.

Called IBM today and they told me the system board was replaced and that may be the cause of the mismatching model numbers.
I also get an error message saying " power surge on hub port" I reset the usb device from the list that pops up, it goes away for a day or two then pops back up. IBM said they might have to change the system board. If anyone knows whats the cause of this please feel free to add. They told me to run pc doctor, which is what iam doing now.
Seems these new notebooks get their system boards changed out too often. I had a 600x that lasted 6 years and still running strong.
