Locked out of 380D BIOS-Please Help

#1 Post by robin_d » Mon Dec 06, 2004 7:28 pm

When I boot up holding down the F1 key I go right into Windows . I have installed more Ram memory
but memory check still shows the same amount of memory as I had before. I have installed a Bios update to this machines newest Bios. Do I need to get into Bios for it to detect the new memory?

I appreciate any and all help.
Thanks

First, make sure you are holding the F1 key down while you turn the computer on and hold until you get the setup screen, don't wait untill after the machine is on, you'll hit the F1 key too late. Also, make sure the RAM you installed is PC66 compatible and EDO. It also has to be 64mb or less, anything above a 64mb chip will not work in a ThinkPad 380.

Thank you, your advice got me into BIOS.
Now that I can test the new memory, it comes up with the following.
(1) Next to the memory icon is a Red X
(2)Below the icon are the following in Red Letters-------->
(A) DEV 002
(B) ERR 83
(C) FRU 2010

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Glad I helped you with the BIOS.

Now, I've had those error codes that you mentioned on my laptop one time when I tired upgrading the RAM. If I'm not mistaken, I beleive that means your computer does not support the RAM you installed.

How big is the RAM chip you are trying to install and is it PC66 compatible?

Check this page...it says that it is Samsung 128mb...if so, that's why it's not working: http://www.vikinginterworks.com/products/intsrvr_nx.asp
