T42p (2373-HSG) what's the fan assembly part number?

#1 Post by kevin_i_orourke » Tue Mar 25, 2008 12:58 pm

The fan on my T42p is quite obviously dying, it's been getting noisier and noisier and today I got my first "fan error" on startup.

I've checked the IBM/Lenovo list of service parts but there doesn't seem to be any machine type matching mine (2373-HSG).

Anyone know what the part number for the fan assembly for one of these is? I'd rather not have to disassemble it in advance just to check the part number.

Kevin

You need the M10 long fan.

Thanks for the info, are they all equivalent parts? Only the first one is listed in the T40/T41/T42 parts table.

Kevin:

I suggest you Search the T4x forum for 41W5204 - then you will find information about which fan is recommended, and how to replace it - and what to watch out for when replacing it.

Your question is quite common on this forum, and rather than repeat all over again what has already been said/shared (numerous times) by experienced users, I suggest you dig up the gold for yourself!

Best regards,

Johan

I had already searched for relevant posts, using keywords such as "t42 fan", without any useful results. Unfortunately I couldn't search for "41W5204", as at that point I didn't know what the relevant part number is.

The main point was to find out what the correct part number is for my specific model, the other posts I found were for various other models of T4x.

The fans for the T4X series are not model dependent (they will all fit), although there are several fans for different models, mainly because different GPU's are used. As others have stated the best part # for a T42/P is 41W5204. It is a newer model long fan and is known to be quieter than older model fans.

Thanks for that, it's very useful information.
