System Update, insufficient hd space issue

I didn't find any resolution to this problem so I decided to submit my first post here now.

Well, I just got Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 installed on my Thinkpad X61. Everything went fine until the ThinkVantage System Update halts during 'Searching For Updates' and says:

There is not enough disk space to perform the current task.

For sure there is at least 40 GB free space on my hard disk. I've tried to run it as administrator as well but the same problem occurs, so I don't think it's about file permissions?

I also read something about .NET framework.. missing.. broken.. regarding to this issue, anyways I installed a newest version of .NET even Vista should have it already though.
