X61 whinning noise

#1 Post by Ricksy » Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:00 am

Hi all,

Just purchased a x61 recently and i noticed that the laptop has a whinning noise, similar to that of interference noise coming from the ventilation vent on the left of the laptop when i am on battery.

This noise imediately goes away when i plug in the power cord.

Just wondering if it is a common problem and if there is any way to get rid of the noise as it is [censored] irritationg....

Cheers man

Common problem with all newer intel cpus. You can solve it by using rmclock, but it decreases batterytime.

The source of this cause is either the Intel CPU or the power supply.

When you hear the noise, get the power supply brick and put it up to your ear... is that the source of the whining noise?

It was for me. It is a problem in the Power Supplies and if you phone IBM/Lenovo they should give you a replacement one.

Hope this helps!
