x3 Ultrabase optical drive not recognized

#1 Post by cogitordi » Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:52 am

I've bought a used X32 with an X3 Ultrabase that contains a CD drive. The problem I'm having is that the X32 (running Windows XP) doesn't recognize the CD drive at all. I can't see the optical drive in Windows Device Manager or in the Explorer.

With a bootable CD in the drive, the CD seems to spin up briefly. Then the OS boots from the disc.

Any ideas?

Is it seen in BIOS? Check the boot order/selection screen. If it's there, put the CDROM drive first in boot order then try to boot up on a bootable CD.

Although there is an entry in the boot sequence menu for an ATAPI CD ROM, there is no information about the CD drive itself.

The CDRW/DVD unit is FRU 08K9868 model GCC-4240N-IMC5.

It should be listed on the same screen as the hard drive. If it is not, the drive or the dock are bad. There is also a slight possibility that the dock interface on the Thinkpad is bad.
