Price check on aisle 3-What should I pay for this X41? *PIC*

Okey dokey. A person I know is selling me his mint X41 that he actually built from random parts he had laying around. New ones. So, it's basically brand new. Just wanted to check if I'm paying too much. Here's what I know:

1.5GHz Pentium M
1.5GB RAM
60GB HD
Ultrabase dock thingy
Power adapter
8 cell battery
XP w/all licensing

That's about it. I'm paying $390 for it, that a good deal?

Oh, and by the way, yes, I'm back, at least until I get rid of it.... :D

Two days ago I'd have said that's an OK deal, but after seeing the prices at the Lenovo Outlet yesterday, my 'pricing skills' are down the drain. Nothing is what it used to be :).

Nothing there looks to pertain to my model....

These are going on my local Craigslist for $550. On the other hand, there's a sucker born every minute:D

I don't know about Craigslist, but the thing I notice when I look at eBay is that often the eBay prices don't compare favorably to pricing from Lenovo's outlet, or even from Lenovo themselves given the current sale pricing.

I missed yesterday's grand sellout by about three hours, but I've long noticed X61s, refurbished ones, on Lenovo's outlet for in the $700-$800 range. And yet I see refurbished models on eBay priced even higher than that. So why bother with eBay when I can buy from Lenovo?

Having said all of that, $390 for an X41 seems reasonable to me. Were I in the market for one, I personally would not feel ill-used to pay that price.

But if you aren't particularly after the small size of an X model, you can get brand-new R series models for right around $500, and that's direct from Lenovo. Actually, I think you can get under $500 if you use the current discount from ecoupons.com. That's something to think about.

I am actually getting this machine to resell, I need money for a car in two years....

But, I do love small laptops. My 15" Powerbook is friggin' HUGE. My 14" T41 I had a few months ago was almost too big... You get the picture.

The point is, I'm buying it from him to kinda do him a favor. He's also giving me a bunch of free Apple stuff in a box. I think it'll end up a good deal.

Here's a pic of it:

If you are buying it to keep, then it is an "OK" deal. However, you are buying this with the intent to resell....then it isn't a good deal....unless you find someone local that is willing to pay much more. Just because someone has one on CL for $xxx, doesn't mean that it will sell for that price.

At point in your favor, is that locally, you have a lot more wiggle room, because someone might be willing to buy it because they don't have access to paypal/eBay. A few years ago, I was able to buy 600Es for about $250, but was able to sell them locally for $400...

Well, everyone, now that I have actually gotten it, I can comment on whether or not I think it was a good deal.

The person who I got it from works for Lenovo/IBM. He can get free parts and stuff. When he got to our meeting place, he told me that he couldn't find a battery, so I should only pay him $300 or so. He said he'd email me for a list of stuff I needed, including the battery, and then drop it off next weekend.

I don't know if he's a member here, but if he is, great job! It's almost new. :D

You'd actually be amazed what people over here in central NC will pay for laptops. There's a T22 right now for around $350. I emailed the guy to tell him he might want to lower his price a little bit (not in a mean way), and he said "Thanks, but I sold it last night"....

I think people love IBM laptops where I live. Considering that maybe 5% of the adults here work there, I'm not surprised.

I think I'll be able to sell it okay, but I really want to keep it. Mom's just making me flip it so I can have money for a car in two years...

What if I don't want one?
