T60 : VGA port stopped working

#1 Post by kwiatks » Thu Mar 27, 2008 1:15 pm

I am unable to use the VGA port to show presentations. I have used Presentation Director in the past and all was OK until I connected my ThinkPad T60 to a external projector. It worked for a while and then stopped. Rebooted machine while at customer but no signal could be sent to the VGA port. I uninstalled Presentation Director and used Fn F7 facility to switch signal between LCD, VGA only and LCD VGA - on all attempts no signal is sent to the VGA screen. I have checked the VGA screen with another system and confirm the VGA screen is working. If I dock the ThinkPad and use the VGA connector at the back of the docking station then no signal is sent to the VGA screen

The obvious answer would be, that you either have dirty contacts in the slit that goes over the Docking Station connector, OR the DS VGA-port itself is faulty.
Does it work if you connect directly to the laptop's VGA-port?

VGA port stopped working

VGA output does not work for either the built in port or via the VGA port on the docking station.

Will look at the VGA socket but can't think it can be that it is dirty.

Sounds like that VGA port might be faulty.
If you rebooted while connected to external VGA and still saw no picture it rules out the windows/driver problem.
I would send the machine for service if it is still in warranty.
I had the same problem with VGA and my motherboard was replaced.
