well i usually buy from crucial but im shopping around, because i think i can save about $40 if not more.
i was searching and came up with this
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_attr ... d=&sortby=
will "performance" memory make a difference?
ive also found some other ram, i just cant relocate it, it was priced high but was "more performance"
x31 memory memory memory
Performance memory is not going to make a difference on an X31, IMHO.
Faster RAS/CAS timings just are not going to matter.
Crucial, Corsair, Mushkin, Kingston should all be good.
I have wondered about the Kingmax myself.
Some people say it works great, but I am not sure. (if anyone has used Kingmax in one or more X series machines (or even T series) and have had good luck please post.)
Since your search pulls up PC2100 modules, one thing to be sure of is if your X31 is spec'd for PC2100 or for PC2700. My understanding is that the newer X31's used PC2700. Even if it calls for PC2100, PC2700 would work fine, and the price difference is a few dollars or less.
Over the years, my experience with PC's has taught me several things, one VERY important one...
DON'T "CHEAP OUT" on memory!!!
Saving $40 is not worth the grief that the savings may cause you down the road.
Let's say you buy the cheaper memory, and everything seems fine. You run memory tests, all seems great.
Then, down the road, you start to have random problems, like lockups, bluescreens, or the like. What is causing them????
Like I said, it really isn't worth fooling with cheap memory.
Again, if anyone knows anything good or bad about Kingmax, please post. All I know is that users at newegg.com like it fine.
I hope this helps.
