X31, Vista, and ReadyBoost

#1 Post by rckrchrdsn » Thu Mar 27, 2008 3:55 pm

If you can purchase a 4Gb readyboost-able usb flash, you want it on the X31 under Vista. The X31 and Vista speed up quite a bit. I have not had problems with speed on the X31, like many are wont to say, but for $15 if I can 10% or 20% in speed, I'll do it. I use the same on my desktops and have found the extra speed at times very useful.

I should note that I have run some benchmarks using Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, (2007 suite) and MySQL. With 2Gb (using 575Mb XP and 750Mb Vista) and no flash, XP and Vista were about the same. With a 4Gb Patriot ($15 at NewEgg), I got between 10% and 20% increase depending on what was running with the biggest improvements on MySQL and Access.

I put this here, even though it may pertain to all Thinkpads with USB 2, because it very nicely speeds up the X31 due to the fact I am still using 5400 RPM drives, capacity/cost issue. I think I would get one for all my machines.
Main X31 Vista Ult 1.6Mhz CPU 2Gb RAM 160Gb HD Artheros 54Mbit Wifi,
3-X31s XP, X24 XP, X22 XP, X21 XP, lots of parts for all of them.
