thinkpad T4* = movie downloading desktop --->bad idea ?

Hi all,
I am using T41 with linux debian 4.0 . everything work well .
my plan is buying one more thinkpad as PC to movie downloading 24/7 - sometime movie encoding with mencoder. I never playing game and no graphich work !
I thing so thinkpad is silent , and low electric using up !
what do you thing ? This very bad idea ?

For encoding, a desktop would be faster and cheaper. Not that a laptop can't encode, but we're talking about the job being done 4 times faster or something.

And yes, a desktop can be quiet if you do it right. Although you're looking at 4 times the power usage as well, though...

Oh, and the laptop doesn't have to be really fast to only do torrents. An Intel P3 or even a P2 would do.
