Bluetooth.. how do I work it?

#1 Post by Bfskinnerpunk » Fri Mar 28, 2008 6:23 pm

I'm trying to make my Blackberry 8830 "notice" my T61 through bluetooth.

I'm not even sure what this will do once it happens (I've never used bluetooth with a PC before)... but I assume that it will allow me to sync stuff up without a cord.

So, is there a driver or something required to get these two devices to talk? Perhaps a special setting?

Hmmm, I'm just reading on the blackberry/RIM web site that the computer needs to have XP sp2 Bluetooth drivers... and that some computers have 3rd party BlueTooth drivers.

I'm not quite sure how to make this T61 "have XP bluetooth".

I don't know about your Blackberry, but my Treo refuses to see my Thinkpad. The Tpad says "device found..." but the Treo won't return the favor, making it impossible to link them.

Some devices just have poor Bluetooth stacks, and if you've got one of them--there's often nothing to do about it. Unless there's a firmware update, or you get a new device.

Maddening, isn't it?

I have Vista business, and my BB "communicates" with my T60 without a problem. I do remember however, that when I first turned it on, it said it needed some drivers, but it still worked. I later downloaded the drivers (bttray), and haven't had a problem.

I mostly use the cable to connect the BB & T60 though. I just leave the bluetooth for exceptional situations, for instance if it's absolutely imperative that I sync my BB or T60 (using Outlook 2007, and it syncs flawlessly with BB). I find that since this is an unusual occurrence, I don't use the bluetooth that often.
