Hard drive "clicks" but passes fitness test ... ??

#1 Post by leoblob » Sat Mar 29, 2008 3:47 pm

I just added a second drive to the Intellistation in my signature. It's a genuine IBM/Hitachi drive (used, it was in my workstation as a 2nd drive when I got it, removed it, and now I want some extra storage space so I put it back in).

It occasionally makes a clicking sound. Since this is (usually) a bad sign, I ran the Hitachi drive fitness test - which it passed. I'm not reassured, however, by the passing grade. Any opinions?

It is a matter of time before that degrades into a complete failure. If you are using it, plan on replacing it sooner than later.
