spec check 23736VU

#1 Post by jsklar » Mon May 31, 2004 8:56 pm

does anyone know what the exact specs are on a T42 23736VU ?

according to MIT's reccomended laptops page they have a t42 listed with a 14.1" sxga+ screen and 64mb radeon 9600 and for a [censored] good price. its item #5132336 on the GovConnection (pcconnection.com for gov/edu) catalog which corresponds to 23736VU

yet on the GovConnection website, they list under the MIT deals the 5132336 / 23736VU with a 14.1" 1024x768 res. on a 32mb radeon 7500 ...

id be happy even with the radeon 7500 for that price but i dunno if i can deal without sxga+ ... anyone know whats the deal with this model number?

Going by the specs of the tabook.pdf it looks like the MIT site has the wrong specs on that unit you listed.

You can download the PDF with all the specs here...
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... tabook.pdf

grr, thats what i thought, im gonna call the guys at MIT tomorrow to check it out for sure .... looks like ill just get the 23733VU instead.

unfortunately the DVD-R on that model burns CDs slower than the combo drive, right? and now i won't have money left over to swap the 5400rpm drive for a 7k60, i guess ill have to wait for that upgrade

thanks JohnV and cynic for the quick response, that tobook is an awful handy reference ;)

Don't worry about the 80gig 5400RPM. The difference between it and a 7k60 is minimal. In fact, if you really care that much about swapping it out, you may be able to sell the 80gig on ebay, and buy a 7k60 for about the same price (probably +/- $20).
