Sorry Michael, no and no.

The IBM warranty upgrades you see on their US website are for US purchased machines only.

Aren't there somewhat similar upgrades available on the IBM DE website?

Yep, as I understand it, every ThinkPad comes with an international warranty, be it one or three years (to be sure, check the tabook->FAQ). I have had a Norwegian ThinkPad repaired in Germany without any problems, no need to register beforehand or provide a proof of purchase.

You're in a better situation than Michael. If your brother purchases a, for example, express model Thinkpad for you here in the US and it only comes with a 1 year warranty, he can easily extend the warranty to 3 years at the time of purchase and the warranty will be international in scope.

The only time I would counsel against doing this is in the case of the On-Site warranty, which is primarily only of use in the US and Canada.

To be clear: express models are those with 1 year warranty?
What does On-Site warranty means? (pick-up and return?)
Sorry, i'm not native english speaker (you'll sure notice).

Most, but not all, come with a 1 year warranty. To confuse matters, there are express models that come with 3 year warranties.

The standard "Depot Level" warranty provides for free pickup and dropoff. Onsite warranty means that a technician will come to your location and repair the unit there if possible.

Not to worry, you're doing as well as most, and better than some, of the native English speakers on the list!

However, this is exactly the reason why I plead in the FAQ that users provide their location information in their profile. A useful answer for someone in the US may prove less than useful for someone in CH, DE, DK, UK, etc., etc.
