clean XP install of T61p has mouse cursor issues

I did a clean XP install along the lines of the guide.


But now my mouse cursor randomly changes to a permanent hourglass. Just recently it even changed to a random picture the size of the login icon (see photo, I couldn't take a screenshot).

I have the UltraNav Drivers installed - what others I could be missing that cause this to happen?
