URGENT: Hard Drive Compatibility?

#1 Post by mooingmooseman » Thu Apr 03, 2008 5:22 pm

Hey guys,

Need some help ASAP. I'm running a T43, 2668-CTO, based off of 2668-WUF...

I just ordered the seagate momentus 2.5" hard drive. It is SATA. It also says "Plug-In Module"
http://www.buy.com/prod/seagate-momentu ... 83669.html

***1. Will this work as my primary drive?****

If not I will need to cancel this order...

2. If not primary will it work in the ultra bay? Will the speed be wasted? (I'm currently using a 40gb 4200rpm IBM HDD that is out of space)

3. What is the best way to transfer/clone.... I have windows vista that does complete backup (equivalent of cloning) but as I have never crashed, I've never used it to rebuild... does it work well or should I just use the approved method that's here on the forum?

Thanks in advance. If nothing else, please help me w/ #1

No, not primary.
You will need a SATA adapter for it to work in the Ultrabay.

"plug-in module" = whoever wrote up that page didn't do it right. I.e. meaningless. "2.5" is the significant part.

And again, it won't work as primary.

A good choice of primary drive for your T43 is the Fujitsu MHV2120AH... it is the same capacity as the seagate drive you chose and works well in the T43 with no issues.
I just installed one in a T43 last weekend and it works perfectly.

You might want to glance at the thread - Problems with non-thinkpad option drives on T43 thinkpads, and see if the seagate drive is on the compatibility list.
The fujitsu drive makes it past the bios / drive compatibility gauntlet with no problems. Your buy.com vendor has it for $72
