T61 Blue ThinkVantage Key Stopped Working within WinXP

#1 Post by eecon » Fri Apr 04, 2008 8:14 pm

After I performed a Lenovo System Update this morning the blue ThinkVantage Key stopped responding within WinXP. I now have to double-click the ThinkVantage Productivity Center desktop icon to open up what the blue key used to open from within WinXP.

The blue key still works during boot-up however.

System Update installed something called "ThinkPad Hotkey Features Setup v2.07.1003" this morning and I'm wondering it that might be the culprit?

You need to reinstall the Productivity Center. There is a specific driver within the Productivity Center that lets you utilize the blue button within the OS. Sometimes the driver can get corrupted with other updates. Good luck!

Thanks for the info .... I tried unistalling and reinstalling that several times with no luck ..... Maybe my key has gone bad mechanically?

I have on-site warranty so maybe it's time to finally try out that service? I live many miles from the nearst small town deep within forrest wilderness along the West Coast of the U.S. ..... It will be interesting to see if a service tech will actually travel several hundred miles to check out a blue button?

An interesting followup: The blue key on my Lenovo Branded external USB keyboard works when it's plugged in .... but the T61's own keypad blue button still does not.

I notice a slight momentary visual distortion around the lower left icons on the screen display each time I try and press the T61's own blue button (seems like something is registering somewhere, but nothing comes of it).

Weirdsville :(

Thes ame thing happened on my Son's R60. If you uninstall the productivity center using uninstall and then download it again, it should fix the problem.

Thanks .... I already undocked it and tried that several times with no luck.

However, since my T61 spends 95% of it's time docked with a Lenovo external KB (where the external KB's blue key "does" indeed work), I'm not too concerned for now.

I still have 3-1/2 years of 9-5 onsite warranty left so I'll put the issue on the back burner until later this year (or next). I still think it's a mechanical problem with the T61 keypad's blue key because the Productivity Center comes up fine with the Lenovo external KB's blue key.

Thanks again :thumbs-UP:
