Resolution on external monitor (32" LCD TV - 720p)

#1 Post by TJMacGyver » Sun Apr 06, 2008 11:57 am

Hi.

I'm trying to set up my x61s to use my 32" LCD TV as external monitor.
But it won't let me choose the TV's native resolution, which is 1360x720 (720p)
#edit - I belive the resolution is 1360x768

Does anybody know how to achieve this?

also I just ordered the x6 ultrabase, and then I found out that the x6 ultrabase only has one video output, and no DVI, what is up with that?? what can possible be the reason for that?

Is there some, easy way, to connect two external monitors? (a tv and a monitor)
They will not be used at the same time, it is just so I won't need to switch cables each time I switch between the displays.

a last offtopic thing :)
Has any of you noticed that the computer beeps if you press a specific combinations of keys on the keyboard?
It happens often to me when I'm typing words that contains 'e' and 'd'

Hope someonne can help
Regards

Am I the only one here, who want's to connect my laptop to the TV?

I'm a little sad that I won't be able to use DVI -> HDMI connector to my TV, as I already have that cable (quite expensive, for a cable)
But I think I will just buy an old-school VGA-switch, to switch between my external monitor and TV.

But seriously, has no one needed to use their x61s on the TV, in its native resolution? (1366x768, for most 720P TV's and it usualy shows up in windows as 1360x768)

You can probably connect two different monitors through a splitter (which means both will display exactly the same thing, and you'll need to adjust the resolution every time you want to use one over the other).

As far as the relevant resolution not being available, that's usually a driver issue (dunno how to solve, sorry).

Finally, the beep is due to too many keys being pressed at the same time (some 3-key combinations trigger this, others don't).

To permanently disable it, go to Device Manager, select View->Show Hidden Devices, find the "Beep" inside "Non-Plug and Play Drivers", and disable it (do not uninstall). You may have to do it twice, once for the ultrabase and once when out of the base.

If the problem is that the resolution doesn't show up for Windows, you'll have to go into a .inf file and manually edit some values to make the resolution available to the system.

If the problem is that the resolution doesn't show up for presentation director, you'll need to do this workaround (at least on XP):

-I don't think I have 1360x768, so you'll have to figure out the appropriate hex value for that one.

Good luck.

I got it working with my Mirai DTL-632V200 (32" LCD TV)
with the following DTD:
HKR,, DTD_2, %REG_BINARY%, 1B,21,50,A0,51,00,1E,30,48,88,35,00,00,00,00,00,00,18,37, 01 ;1360X768@60...Non-interlaced

(just if there should be anyone else looking for the exact same model :) )

I had t o use another computer with a DVI port, to get the EDID from the TV. (it's not send over VGA)

Now I just need a DTD or modeline for my Sony GDM-W900 for the resolution 1600x1024@85 or 1600x1024@100 I can't remember which one :)

Thanks again for the very good tips!

Smvp6459 you are oficially the greatest :)

I just got it working on my sony gdm-w900.
I had to install powerstrip, to find a resolution/timings that would work, and then I got the modeline from that an imported it into my driver.

the converted modline is:
40,50,40,60,62,00,49,40,80,B0,13,00,00,00,00,00,00,18,37, 01 ;1600x1024@85...Non-interlaced

Now I just need to find a vga splitter/switch/y-cable - so that I won't have to change the cable each time.

Thanks again
