Dual Monitors on T42 using DVI + VGA from port replicator

#1 Post by bigandos » Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:36 am

Hi All

I have a thinkpad T42 which I use at work connected to a port replicator. This has a Radeon 75000 VGA card. I connect an external monitor via the VGA port when I am working at my desk.

I've inherited a second monitor which I want to use as well. I got a DVI-D to VGA adaptor which is plugged into the DVI port on the port replicator. I enabled VGA + DVI in the bios but I can't get the monitor connected via DVI to work.

The laptop has recognised it, it appears in device manager and it is in the list of monitors on the advanced display properties. No matter what I try it won't turn on! When I right click on it and tell windows it is attached, and extend my desktop onto it nothing happens! I have tested it via VGA and it works fine.

Grateful for any help!

Try reversing the monitors...does the non working monitor now work?

Is the DVI adapter compatible? Did you try another adapter or cable? Are the pins correct on the DVI adapter?

I had the same setup on my T23 with no issues...it should work and be available when you press Fn+F7.

Good luck...Bill

DVI-D is digital only and doesn't support VGA. DVI-A and DVI-I has analog VGA signals. If you want to use two VGA monitors, try the 2877 dock with a VGA card in the PCI slot.

Yes I tried swapping the monitors and the non-working one started working. I guess I need a DVI monitor to plug in to be able to do this!
