I can't find any settings for the sensitivity, so I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to this. I usually use a BT mouse, but not when I'm on travel, since I tend to lose them

Tap sensitivity
Is anyone else having issues with the tap sensitivity? The trackpad is not sensitive enough and I sometimes have to really tap to get it to respond.

x60 Tablet: home/SB x300: work
Sorry, I should have elaborated. Touch sensitivity is set to High, and I don't have any problems moving the cursor with the pad. Tapping however is not working 100%. I either have to tap more than once or tap much harder than usual to get the cursor to work (e.g. to get the cursor to go into this field, or to scroll up and down a window).
I'll see if it persists, maybe it'll get better with use (or I'll get tired and use the buttons)

I have a similar experience with the touchpad. I think with time I will get use to it but I don't like it. I have tried adjusting the settings via contro panel but it's still not as sensitive as I am use to with other computers.
T420s Intel Core I5 2.6ghz, 160GB Solid State Drive, DVDRW, 14" display w/ HD3000 graphics, Intel AGN, BT, 8GB DDR3 SDRAM, Gigabit Ethernet, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Us too! Good thing I found this thread so I know that we didn't get a bad X300 unit. Has anyone reported this on the Lenovo forums? Any solution?
I use the TrackPoint myself so I never noticed the touchpad tapping problem. But the X300 is now going to a family member whose ThinkPad is breaking down and who only uses the touchpad. He started complaining right away, because he didn't have this problem on any of his previous ThinkPad T-series models.
I'd also played with the control panel settings (setting Touch Sensitivity to high, etc). Even though moving the cursor works as already mentioned, tapping is not reliable -- especially when you want to tap repeatedly (like when moving a scroll bar the traditional way).
I'm not sure but I think disabling the TrackPoint helped a little bit with the touchpad tapping? Or maybe it's just that with the TrackPoint enabled, whenever you move the pointing stick you then can't use the touchpad for a fraction of a second.
There's also a separate Tap Filter setting in the touchpad control panel which says "When typing, ignore taps for a specified delay period". I turned it off but it didn't completely fix the problem. And the touchpad still seems to be disabled for a little while after moving the TrackPoint as described above.
Anyways I'm just wondering if this is a problem with the touchpad hardware, or a problem with the latest UltraNav software cramming in too many filtering functions as to make the touchpad unreliable?? Would it help to uninstall UltraNav or revert to some earlier, simpler version?

FYI I also posted a thread in the Lenovo forums since I couldn't find anyone else having mentioned the problem there (which is strange):

In my case I'm trying to convert my family member to use the TrackPoint instead of the touchpad. But you know how hard it is to change habit...

I finally received my X300 today. I noticed the tap issue as well though I don't use trackpad tapping that much. I think I figured out why there is an issue. Somewhere along the way Lenovo decided to cut yet another cornet and went with an Alps touchpad. For years Synaptics has been the touchpad of choice for Thinkpads. It was the one feature that I just assumed Thinkpads had. Over the years other manufacturers have been slowly moving from Synaptics to Alps. The only thing that comes to mind is that Alps must be cheaper and it shows. Alps touchpads typically don't track as well, scrolling is not smooth, and taps are not always registered. Glad to see Lenovo cut yet another corner.
And another
I jumped on the forums to find exactly this issue -- count me in on touchpad tapping problems with an X300. Six or seven taps just to get the thing to register? Kind of absurd. And yep, sensitivity maxed out in the settings. All other touchpad functions work fine.

One thing I noticed the other day (before I sent it to Lenovo for repair) was that using a generic mouse driver solved the tap issue. Of course the trackpoint didn't work very well, but it looks like Lenovo can tweak the driver for better control. Anyone know someone at Lenovo that we can bring this to their attention?
BTW, anyone notice that there isn't a way to adjust the scroll speed? I believe Lenovo did a royal injustice going with Alps on the X300. I thought the machine was supposed to be a premium model? Premium price I suppose.
