Welcome screen long delay

#1 Post by ro-76 » Tue Apr 08, 2008 5:00 pm

Hi,

I've got an X60 running XP home. I am having issues recently with the bootup time. There is a really long delay on the Welcome screen, despite the fact that there is no disc activity.

I read that this might be the computer trying to reconnect network drives, but I have disconnected all network drives. I am at a loss to find out what is happening.

There's some sort of utility, and I think it's from Micro$oft, that can be enabled to log the actions of the next boot and allow them to be displayed later as a timeline. Alas, I can't remember what it is called, but perhaps this will jog someone's memory.

I used it once for a desktop machine (where it turned out to be a network connection) and think this would be an appropriate tool for your situation.

Try BootVIS ... it will analyze your boot sequence and show a report on what's causing the delay. Could be a driver, a service (probably networking related), or otherwise. Just google it and download it - it's free (msi format - only need a double-click to install it).
