X40: Anyone try using >1.5GB of RAM?

#1 Post by loki4000 » Wed Apr 09, 2008 1:16 pm

Has anyone here successfully installed more than 1.5 GB of RAM on their X40 (not X41)? I know that the manual says that 1.5 GB is the limit, but sometimes adding more works. Any luck with the X40?

I am not aware of any 2 G DRR RAM stick you can use.

Welcome to the forum!

You have only one spot available in X40/41, and the largest DDR stick is 1Gb, so you are indefinitely limited to 1.25 or 1.5Gb.

X41 will run 2Gb DDR2, but not X40.

Thank you!

I want to make sure I understand what you mean... are you saying is that I am limited not by the X40 motherboard, but by actual supply of the DDR (as opposed to DDR2)? That the X41 takes DDR2 instead of DDR and that 2 GB chips are available for DDR2 but not DDR?

What about something like this:
http://item.express.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA ... MILAR_LINK

Would that work? Sorry about all the questions... I haven't followed memory upgrades very closely over the years.

That's two 1 G DRR sticks.

Oh what a shame, I feel so cheated. :D

Guess I'm stuck with the 1 GB DDR chip.

1.5 G is not bad.

If it is a problem, you might consider selling the x40 and get the x41.

Although the X41 can take a 2GB stick in addition to the onboard memory, the chipset only allows 2GB in total to be used. So the maximum for the X40 is 1.5GB and for the X41 it is 2GB. Not a huge difference really.

I was sure I saw some threads in here that said you could get 2.5 G on the x41. I don't have one yet so i don't know. But I should get one soon and will find out.
