600e LCD display issues

#1 Post by titantiger » Wed Apr 09, 2008 1:27 pm

My 600e appears to be dying a slow death. The latest thing is the LCD screen. At random times, the LCD will go black or extremely faint or it will blink on and off for several seconds. If I use the Fn button and hit F7 to toggle between an external display and the LCD, it eventually stops (after 3-4 tries normally) and will work fine for hours. But eventually it has the same problems again.

So my question is, is it the LCD screen itself, or is something on the motherboard acting up? I know it's a totally different machine, but a friend had a MacBook where the LCD would go extremely faint and it turned out the screen was fine, it was the logic board that went bad. They replaced it and it works like a charm now. Could something like that be the problem here?

I would start with an inverter board replacement. I have a spare that I may part with.

I'm thinking that the inverter board may be cutting out. The easy test is to use a bright flashlight and shine it into the screen while it's blacked out. If you see a faint image, it's probably the inverter. Dying bulbs would be a red to pink color immediately upon startup gradually turning into a pure white.

PM me if you're interested.
