Windows updates?-T21 (PIC)

#1 Post by joester » Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:02 pm

OK. Using WXP/IE7, automatic updates set to "download and notify".
Lately, I've noticed icons missing from the taskbar, yet the hot keys for the "missing" programs work fine. Logoff and login, the icons reappear.

I also noticed that more often than not, when I am ready to shut down, the "click on 'turn off' to install updates" window pops up.

Is there a way to find out what updates are waiting?

Any ideas what's going on?

I'm stumped. Tonight, I shut down (updates waiting and installed, then PC shut down), restarted, and same thing when shutting down the second time.

I set WUAU to notify before download. I don't want BITS or any other WUAU component slowing down my computer (considerably) to download what I don't want.

In fact, lately, I think it's turned off. I found that Wednesday through Friday, my system was dog slow, and the WUAU* services were the culprits.
