Windows Vista squanders power on standby on my R60

#1 Post by Mighty_Mauz » Thu Apr 10, 2008 5:46 pm

This week I've decided to upgrade my R60. I upgraded my RAM from 1 to 4 gig and installed Windows Vista. But I have a little problem: in standby my system uses an awful amount of energy. Where I could standby a whole night on XP without even noticing the energy loss, now it takes about 20% off my battery.

What am I doing wrong?

Most of the articles I've read on Vista and Sleep are rather vague. The authors obviously do not understand how Vista sleep is different from XP sleep.

My conclusion is, Vista does use more power in Sleep than XP did. It's because more data is held in memory, I -think- based on articles.

I suggest using Hibernate rather than Sleep if you want to save battery power overnight. Hibernate takes a bit longer to wake up, but your computer can sit for days in Hibernate.
