ENTIRE NEW Lenovo Lineup revealed!
See here: http://gizmodo.com/378504/lenovos-entir ... s-siblings
Looks pretty cool. I wonder what the price will be for the X200. I just put an order in for the Penryn T8300 2.4 Ghz X61 today. $1061 fully loaded. If the X200 comes out at this price, I'd so regret getting the X61 now.

Trust me, you won't regret buying the X61. Firstly, it is an awesome laptop, very light, and great battery life. Not only that, but you got it about $600 below MSRP (IMHO). You're going to Love it.
As for the new X200/X300/X400/X500... well the X200/X400/X500 will not be coming out for some time yet - like a quarter or two - and they're likely to have much higher prices than your X60. Also, being that they are newly designed, I like to watch the market a bit first for reviews (ie for a few months) to make sure that a design refresh is going to be something I will Love too. Maybe in 7 months you'll want an X200, but it'll likely use the same processor so it won't help any
P.S. When you look at the new line-up, if you have "Ride of the Valkries" playing on your stereo, it makes the experience 100x better
P.P.S. It's my birthday! What a present!

I don't understand the split between the series - if this is all true. 14.1" and 15" models across X/R/T series is going to be extremely confusing ... maybe the W series is a re-born A series, but I really hope we don't see a 17" monster in ANY line.
And did I read right? It says T-series is "mid-range" now ... that's plain crazy! I'll be watching for related news, but I am taking this release with a pinch of salt (rather a pitcher of salt).

Unlike my dear friend gator, I'd love to see a 17" ThinkPad with an IPS LCD and QXGA resolution...

2Ghz Penryn (I definitely don't need a 3Ghz laptop)
2GB DDR3 RAM
128GB SSD 100MB/s RW (hehe)
14.1" LED WSXGA+ (option of-course not standard)
9 Cell battery (making it 4 to 5lbs
)
Total runtime - 5-6hrs.
Priced under $2000
Watch out bank account!!!! Deep scars are coming.

I wouldn't expect anything better than 17" WXGA+ TN with 150:1 "contrast" and excessive backlight bleeding. That's standard for new Lenovo top-models.ajkula66 wrote:Unlike my dear friend gator, I'd love to see a 17" ThinkPad with an IPS LCD and QXGA resolution...

It's gonna be a WUXGA 17" TN, with 200:1, and moderate backlight bleeding.
And ofcourse, you will never see 17" QXGA, simply because no one will make a 17" non-widescreen laptop.
That's funny, because a friend (who previously had an Acer) was considering buying a T61p and one of the major factors was its 1920*1200 screen. Unless Lenovo has a different top model I am not aware of?Puppy wrote:I wouldn't expect anything better than 17" WXGA+ TN with 150:1 "contrast" and excessive backlight bleeding. I guess that in terms of size and weight the T series has always been mid-range compared to its relatives.gator wrote: And did I read right? I'll be interested to see actual details on these - 4 size variants in the X series seems rather confusing and possibly unnecessary though.

I agree. Just stick to 12.1" and 13.3" for the X series. If I want an ultraportable, I wouldn't want it to be 14.1" and not be able to fit it on a airplane tray table! Unless Lenovo wants to go down the same path as Apple to make thin but large-footprint "ultraportables".
As previously mentioned, I always thought the T series was the top of the line. When did it get relegated to "mid-range"?
I do look forward to the switchable graphics (copied from Sony SZ, I bet). Finally I can have the power when I need it and battery life at other times. Oh well, till then, my X61 serves me well *most* of the time.

BTW What will be the same-size-replacement for X60 ? It supposed to be an X100 to get the same size (width in particular).

Great....and I just placed an order for a T61. I really don't want to be stuck with my 17" laptop until the new ones come out...but if I were to wait, now's the time to do it while it's still being built.
After having sold my T60 to my dad, the system below is only going to cost me about $1000 out of pocket (technically, only like $300, but some of the money he gave me ended up going towards health insurance)...do that and wait for the Nehalem systems instead of this Penryn refresh, or run on just the DV9000 in sig until these come out?

I just really felt i needed to dedicate a post to this.
BOE-Hydis is now kept alive by PVI / Prime View Consortium, especially see this part:
http://www.beck-oled-lcd-tft-display.de ... /07-11.php and
"Please note that the MOU signed with Prime View Consortium includes a consensus clause which states that BOE HYDIS' current business strategy will be maintained. As such, the agreement will have no affect on our supply of products and services to your company, which will continue as usual."
Have you guys seen this AFFS LED backlit 12" WS with a WXGA resolution that has a data sheet from end of oct. 2007 ?
http://www.beck-oled-lcd-tft-display.de ... X6-100.pdf
If Lenovo is not implementing these panels in the 12" WS X200 the lack of credibility of the words regarding "we are looking into substitutes for the flexview" is just off.

It was clear from the beginning. Cutting the cost is the only reason. BTW Boe-Hydis still offers 15" SXGA+ and UXGA IPS panels as well.Troels wrote:If Lenovo is not implementing these panels in the 12" WS X200 the lack of credibility of the words regarding "we are looking into substitutes for the flexview" is just off.

Thinking about it... i'm really getting tired/frustrated with Intel releasing new processors and chipsets all the time - to no avail imo. It's a laptop. I don't feel the difference between my Athlon TB 1.2 Ghz desktop and Core Duo 2 GHz if it had not been because the desktop runs on SD-Ram.
But maybe it makes sense either way - Intel probably spoke to MS about making a bloated OS, so that people would need to upgrade their CPUs.
So Greg, your nice T61p is not outdated. It all depends on your uses. A desktop processor and chipset will always stomp all over Intel's "performance" offerings on a laptop either way. I.e., it is all just marketing gimmick.

I don't know what operating system you're using but I'd say that the difference in speed between a Thoroughbred cored Athlon XP @ 1.2Ghz and a Core2 Duo @ 2Ghz is astronomical.Troels wrote:Thinking about it... i'm really getting tired/frustrated with Intel releasing new processors and chipsets all the time - to no avail imo. Thoroughbreds are awful for heat, Core2 Duos are better than AMD's current alternative (I'm an AMD fan, but they're just not delivering at high enough clock rates, I'm looking forward to Griffin/Puma though.)
You'll notice a huge difference also in media encoding be that ripping music from a CD or a video from a DVD. In general productivity tasks like Office as well, anti-virus scans and all performance is drastically increased I'd say by at least 100% over the Thoroughbred.
