Opening Lid sets video to VGA

My X41's resolution in Windows XP is 1024x768 however when I close the lid and open it it switches to 640x480. It's quite annoying as it sometimes doesn't switch back to 1024x768. What is doing this and how can i disable it?

I copy, same problem. But mine goes to 800x600 i think. It doesn't piss me so much, because I have Desktop Restore program to keep my icons in place, but if anyone has a solution I am interested .

I'm also having some problems with desktop resizing, but not just when I open the lid. Also happens when I first boot into windows, and also randomly without appaent cause. Sometimes on-screen display indicates that the display has switched to LCD + external and then back to just LCD again. Sometimes the screen just goes blank for a second or so as if it is resetting. About half the time the mouse cursor has returned to the centre of the screen. Have tried different refresh rates and different drivers for the video chip, but cant get rid of it. (btw do other X41 owners have only 40Hz interlaced or 50 Hz as refresh rate options?)
