CPU upgrade for my T6X: micro-FCPGA or micro-FCBGA.

#1 Post by Marie-Anne » Fri Apr 11, 2008 6:58 am

I'm considering to upgrade my T60 with a better CPU (possibly T7400 or T7600).

However I noticed that these CPU's are manufactured with 2 different package types:

- micro-FCPGA: micro-Flip Chip Pin Grid Array = 478-pin micro-FCPGA = socket M
- micro-FCBGA: micro-Flip Chip Ball Grid Array = 479-ball micro-FCBGA

as listed here:
http://processorfinder.intel.com/ListPr ... ocFam=2643

Obviously I want to avoid purchasing the wrong type and the hassle to sell it again.
Question: which package type is compatible with my T60?

P.S.
In the meantime I´ve changed the subject of my post (T60 into T6X), because this issue might be relevant for both T60/P and T61/P owners, interested in a CPU upgrade

BGA=permanently soldered in cpu

So no, you can't find individual BGA cpus, there's no chance of accidentally getting one. They are used in non-upgradeable laptops like the X series.

aaa, no offense to you of course, as your info was crucial to me.

Next post gives some more details, for whom are interested in the differences in FCPGA and FCBGA.

Currently a Dutch guy is selling a T7400 BGA version on the internet (www.marktplaats.nl), after he purchased it at Ebay and finding out that he couldn't use this version.
