I bought my T60p from these guys. They can be trusted.

I went for the 'silent option' as well - but as far as I can tell it consists of a version of TPfancontrol and a bios upgrade. I don't think they change any hardware - I wouln't know what you could change, but you might press them to give you some more info on that.

I've changed the HDD soon after I got it - it wasn't any louder afterwards, in fact it was a lot quieter, but that was due to the hard drive - so I doubt the software made any difference on my model.
