T60 Freezing

#1 Post by sarahturned » Fri Apr 11, 2008 6:01 pm

I did a google search on this issue and came across quite a few hits of people with the same issue, but no resolution. I'm hoping someone can assist.

I have a T60 laptop running Windows XP Pro, fully patched.

When the laptop is undocked and I boot up, quite often, either the keyboard, mouse point or both the keyboard/mouse point are frozen. I end up having to power the pc off, wait and turn it back on. Sometimes I have to do 3 or 4 reboots before it works.

I never have this issue while docked.

Event viewer shows the following error:

Event ID 7000
The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

This laptop does not have a parallel port, although disabling the port through bios did not help.

The laptop was purchased from a friend who used it at work running XP Pro. While he had it, he never had this issue. When I formatted, reimaged, that's when the issue started, so I don't think it is hardware, but rather there must be a patch that I can't seem to locate. He's not sure of any patches as the laptop is given to him from head office fully imaged and ready to use.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Thank you

Try the following article, which seems to describe your problem:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935497/en-us

It would explain why the machine is fine when docked, yet has the problem undocked. Although the article is for Vista, it should apply to XP as well.

Also, consider posting in the T6x forum:

next time you have a problem with a T-series machine.
