16bit vs 32 bit color quality

#1 Post by propellen » Sat Apr 12, 2008 3:24 am

Hi,

I usually run 32 bit color quality on my T60 with ATI x1400, but after upgrading the video card driver it got reduced to 16 bit.

I didnt notice anything visual, the only think is that my system has been much cooler.

Is there anything other than video viewing you notice the difference in running 16bit vs 32bit?

You should be able to set it back to 32 bit.

One of my LCDs has some problem and it only displayed in 16bit even when set to 32bit. The most noticeable place is the bright spot in the upper left corner of the Windows startup screen. You can see the banding instead of the smooth gradual shades.

Yes, its possible to switch it back.
But since the system became so much cooler, i'm thinking of mabye keeping it on 16 bit.. :)

So, i was wondering about the regular daytoday disadvantages on running on 16 bit color quality..

I don't care for the appearance of 16-bit, but otherwise, there is no downside I can think of. If it works for you, then use it. You can always switch back. ... JDH

You will be able to see blotchy color gradations on 16bit. If that doessn't bother you, stick with 16 bit. It bugs the cr_p out of me so I always use 32 bit.

There is no siginificant advantage to 16-bit in terms of battery life or heat (I checked it personally on my T60). If you have a nice LCD why use 16-bit? :)
