newer bios on my t61p than is officially released

#1 Post by thomas565 » Sat Apr 12, 2008 4:08 am

got a new t61p (T9300, wuxga, 1gb, ordered with vista bus 64) for my bro a month ago, mid march, and strangely, it had a bios version of 2.12, which has not been posted on their support pages since then. the newest posted bios version is 2.10.

am I lenovo's guinea pig, once again?

anyone else having this?

Just wanted to let you know that I just got a system board replacement from Lenovo for my T61 and I have 2.12 as well. I noticed it's not on the site yet as well.

I would like to have the 2.12 version for testing :D I have a 2.10 version right now, but I bought a T9300 for my T61p. It doesn't work properly though, I'm getting a "thermal sensing error" everytime I boot.

V2.14-1.08 (7LETB4WW/7KHT24WW) is the latest. But it's only available to Japanese customers.

Well... or you can find the Flash Upgrade here:

http://www-06.ibm.com/jp/domino05/pc/do ... MIGR-67988 (exe)

http://www-06.ibm.com/jp/domino05/pc/do ... MIGR-67989 (iso)

It includes an updated Intel micro code, Intel AMT 2.6, SSD (Solid State Drive) support, and various fixes.

Have I upgraded myself yet? Nope. Cheers.

Received my machine with 2.12 BIOS - no complaints here. Running smoothly. I tend not to upgrade the BIOS anyways, unless there's some earth-shattering changes in a newer version.

Install that bios and your bios configuration will probably be in Japanese!

Well, in that case, get the US version, which is 100% identical with the Japanese btw. (link hasn't been posted @ Lenovo yet):

Thanks for helping.

:( It doesn't solve my "thermal sensing error" problem though. I was thinking a new BIOS would maybe solve this problem, but there really is a hardware difference between the 'old' and new T61p system boards?

thermal sensor error on upgrading t61P to penryn

#11 Post by akim » Tue Apr 15, 2008 3:05 pm

hi SneakyViper,

May I ask you when you got your T61P.

The reason I am asking is because I had a planar card replacement on late december and I am wondering if upgrading processor as in my signature to T9300 would work as for this thermal sensor error.

Early october, it was one of the first cheaper T61p models.

By the way, you might want to check out this page in case it affects you...

Interesting. This explains why the page gave me 404 errors yesterday.

noticed that, too 2 days ago.

man, they are so screwy. my first t61p came with an old bios in dec 07, and first thing i had to do was to update it. its their job to put on the right and working bios, and not letting the new user perform that somewhat risky task of flashing the bios. further, some users need a flawless machine for critical calculations.

from that page linked above:
"it is highly recommended that all users update their system with this new BIOS."
I send in my laptop, let them do it! its their job. better: they even can keep the trashy machine. I want a refund.

Hm... So there still might be some hope for me too ;) I'm still using my T9300 in a pre-penryn T61p with the "thermal sensing error" at boot, but just 1 other problem: the heat of the T9300. When fully loaded on 2 cores (video encoding for example) it can easily reach 80-85 degrees...
