Battery Issue for T41

#1 Post by ResidentG33k » Sun Apr 13, 2008 12:48 am

With my battery i have in my laptop it only lasts about 2 hours.. Is this common for the T41?

I'm running a T41 1.6ghz M Processor, 1gig ram, 120gig Fujitsu HDD... My model is the 2373-7FU. I use the Battery in Mode "High Battery Performance"

Battery is "NOM 10.8V 4.4AH - FRU P/N 08K8193" Its a genuine IBM Battery. Any suggestions? I got this laptop used and it works great.

Any suggestions guys? I tried Deep Cycling my battery, I charged it up all the way then turned off the Power Management settings and drained the battery to 3% then plugged the power adapter back in.

I'm not sure if the SpeedStep is working on my laptop, isnt it supposed to Slow your computer down when not using a lot of programs?

The length of time your T40 will run is going to depend on the condition of the battery. If you haven't already, download the battery maximizer program from IBM so you can get that information. It will be able to tell you what the original capacity of the battery is, how much of that capacity is left, how old the battery is, etc.

2 hours for a used battery is very nice. I got my T40 also used, my battery lasts one hour.

So nothing to worry about.

You can check your battery cycles and design capacity with the Battery MaxiMiser program stated above

#5 Post by ResidentG33k » Sun Apr 13, 2008 2:47 pm

Thanks Frankie. Yeah i just barely got my T41 not that long ago... I kinda expected more out of my battery =/ Oh well. I'm still getting used to my thinkpad. I already had the Battery MaxiMizer program, ill post a screen shot of my battery cycles.

Does the Full Charge Capacity mean i'm only getting half of what the battery design capacity should be? That is if im understanding it correctly.

Yes, you are right; the battery is old (2005-07).

You can look at eBay for batteries.

There are chinese/taiwanese fake batteries available, but these don't always work good, sometimes they will, but sometimes they won't.

There are also OEM IBM batteries (official IBM made batteries), these are working fine mostly, but are more expensive.

There are some recent experiences in this thread: Where should I buy a replacement battery for a T41?
