T42, what does it mean?

#1 Post by lemmerdeur » Sun Apr 13, 2008 1:43 pm

I got a T42 (2373-4WU) in unknowned condition with no Hard Drive and first I had no picture. I replaced the LCD (same fru #) and a HDD with a new windows XP installed from Microsoft CD. Now it is working (I am typing from it) But I noticed that it had no sound. I went to device manager and I have a lot of yellow ?. What does it mean?
Here they are:
? other devices
? ethernet controller
? multi media audio controller
? PCI modem
? SM Bus controller
? Universal serial Bus (usb) controller
? unknown device
? video controller (VGA compatible)

:( :( :( :( Doesn't look too good! Is it fixable?

Most likely it's just missing software drivers for those components. Go to the Lenovo main site and type "2372-4WU" into the main search box, and search around for your relevant drivers. Or alternatively, try downloading the latest version of ThinkVantage System Update and install that, and see if it will automatically find the drivers and any system updates for you.

Sorry I re-typed your model number wrong in my suggestion for the search query. Try here:

Download and install the chipset driver first to identify the hardware that is currently unknown. Then install the appropriate remaining hardware drivers. from the links above.

Where do I find the Download for the chipset driver ?
I download PC doctor and it tells me misconfiguration for all the above yellow question marks. What should I do?

Make it very easy on yourself.

Go here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-66956

Download and install the program. It will check the IBM/Lenovo website for all the latests software and drivers for your laptop.

system update scanns our system and then displays all proper drivers for it. All the optional software will be shown as such so uncheck anything you don't want.
