X31 Resource Conflict when installing 802.11a/b/g MiniPCI
X31 Resource Conflict when installing 802.11a/b/g MiniPCI
I bought a 802.11a/b/g MiniPCI Wireless Card (Part #91P7301) to upgrade my wireless from old Cisco B card. I have searched in this forum before I made the purchase. It's supposed to work in the X31. However, after I installed the new card, I got an error message during booting up.
ERROR
Resource Conflict - PCI Network Controller in slot 01
Bus:02, Device:02, Function:00
Press <F1> to Setup
I opened the cover again and made sure the card was installed properly. But I still got the same error message after that. I don't know how to fix the problem. I put in my old B card and it booted up w/o any problem.
I've searched here but didn't find a specific solution. There was a post here
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 2c7bcd5914
But I don't want to do a fresh XP install.
Please help. Thx.

Actually, when I swapped in an IBM a/b/g card into my X31 to replace an a/b card, I got the same error. I know the X31's are picky about the wireless card, but since I had this IBM card lying around, I decided to try it. No go.
I ended up swapping an Intel a/b/g card from one of my T41's into the X31 and then installing the IBM into the T41. No problems after that with either laptop... although it was a minor pain because of the installations and software uninstalls/installs.
I never really investigated why the IBM didn't work, I just knew from reading posts that the X31 was picky.
I think I got the error during boot up before Windows loads, (can't remember), so I don't know if a fresh install would help. However, you might try uninstalling all wireless software, to include Access Connections, and then trying again.
Good luck.

I agree with you. I don't think a fresh windows installation would solve the problem either. This error message came out after the IBM Logo. Windows hasn't started loading up yet. I don't know what made the difference in the other post.
I don't have the Access Connections. I am using Windows wireless configuration to access the wireless network. Again, I don't think it would matter because the error comes up at a much earlier booting up stage.
Maybe the card itself is bad. But I don't have another thinkpad to try.

I had the same problem earlier. It resolved by inserting a small piece of paper underneath the card so that the paper lifts the card up a bit.
The problem has nothing to do with windows, because it comes even before windows starts up.
Try browsing trough my message history and should find a better instructions.
