Supervisor Password R31

#1 Post by bjohnson » Mon Apr 14, 2008 4:41 pm

While installing a fresh copy of XP, I had a power failure when it was installing SP2. When it boots up and when I pressed F1 to try and get into the bios it asks for the password  . I am assuming that there is a default password. Please help, IBM tells me to bring it in for service.

Nope, there isn't a default password, Supervisor password is set by the user and can only be removed by the known set password:

Lost or forgotten password - ThinkPad General.

Try leaving the password field blank i.e. only press enter while entering the BIOS.

Also, have you inquired your son about the possibility of setting any passwords?

If you've no need to enter the BIOS then you should be able to install Windows on your thinkpad again.

Thanks for your help. Nothing worked last night, so I left it unplugged, removed the Cmos, and battery pack, reset the ram, put it back together this afternoon. When I powered it up, asked for time and date I was able to get into the bios, set it to boot from my cd drive, I am now formatting the hard drive getting ready to install XP again :D THANKS
