Build Quality

#1 Post by akao » Tue Apr 15, 2008 12:08 am

What are other people's experiences with the build quality of their X300?

I just got one earlier today, and it feels like an amazing laptop. However, the machine wouldn't boot, the space bar wouldn't work intermittently, and the display had a stuck pixel. I took apart the space bar to see if I could fix it, Underneath one of the plastic hinge was a grain of barley or rice! Those silly workers eating while they're working. I also had to use the recovery discs before the computer would boot.

That makes 2 of us, who had to run the recovery disk on a new out of the box X300.

My X300 also wouldn't load vista, it keeps on getting an error and wants to reboot all the time. After doing a fresh install, everything is sweet now.

Decided to upload a picture of it.

It's hard to tell the scale in this macro shot. All details in the picture are form just one small part of what's underneath the space bar. The silver part is where one of the plastic hinges connects the space bar to the bottom panel.

Maybe it's actually an insect egg? Not that it makes it any better.

I didn't want to start a new topic, but I noticed that my x300 rattles quite a bit when it's sitting in the car. It apparently does not close well, so it clacks when the car is vibrating.

Has anyone heard that too?

mine is one of the most solidly-built thinkpads i've owned since 1995.   if yours rattles then you should probably send it in to service for a checkup.

Since the 600 series for me.

Saw this on FSJ earlier today. It's pretty funny:

Build quality is fine. it's just that there is only one locking mechanism on the right hand side, so the left side is able to rattle/clack when the laptop is closed and in a car.
