I've been interested in the idea of a 17 inch laptop, but not at all in gaming. I've read some reviews saying one version of the Y710 is a good, solid, general purpose computer for replacing a desktop. Apparently it has a plain numeric keypad on it, not the special pad for gamers.
Some have disparagingly described the Y710 as a lowly consumer model, but I've seen some ludicrous prices on them, which doesn't sound much like it's a bottom end machine. I do want 17" and a numeric keypad, but I'm not at all interested in paying big for a machine that doesn't really cut it.
Are there any folks out there who have actually bought a Y710 for use as a general purpose computer and found it to fill that category well?
If so, are they pleased at having Vista on it? Would XP not even run the machine?
Would they describe it more as a wait-and-see situation?
