Stop 0x0000007f After Upgrading ATI FireGL Drivers to 8.442

#1 Post by Mainframer » Tue Apr 15, 2008 3:21 pm

I began receiving a Blue Screen with Stop 0x0000007f after installting the ATI Mobility Radeon/FireGL driver update 8.442.3-080103a1-057754C-Lenovo. (I also updated the BIOS to 2.21 at the same time).

The Stop 0x0000007f errors occured after resuming from hibernation, shortly after providing my fingerprint.

The event log is as follows:
Error code 1000007f, parameter1 0000000d, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000.

Dumpchk indicated that the problem was likely ati2mtag.sys (ati2mtag+102550).

I rolled the ATI drivers back to version 8.383.1.1000 dated 6/21/07 and I'm no longer experiening this problem.

I purchased a T60p and am experiencing bluscreens with the same stop code after updating several drivers with the think vantage system update tool. Contacting the lenovo support resulted in the answer, that this seems to be a problem, that appears together with symantec products and I have in deed installed Norton 360 but this was already installed before the driver update. When I searched the internet I got the posting above and I have the same driver installed. So, when I will get the bluescreen again I will also roll back to the old driver.

I have Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2008 installed on my T60p and I began to experience this problem only after using the ThinkVantage System Update utility to install the BIOS and ATI updates noted in my previous post.

As it appears that this problem may be an interaction between NIS 2008 or Norton 360 and the new ATI driver, I think it incumbent upon Lenovo to initiate a dialog with ATI and Symantec to resolve this issue, for I don’t think either Symantec or ATI will solve this problem on their own, and if Lenovo, over the long term, says this is not their problem, then as customers we’re looking at less than stellar support.

Sorry for your troubles but it sounds like things are working for you again! What did it say that the new drivers were "capable" of doing that the old ones didn't. I also have had BIOS 2.21 for about a month and a half without any problems.
