Audio is weak on R61

Hi,

I recently purchased a ThinkPad R61 with the following specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2 GHz.
800 MHz FSB
2 GB RAM
160 GB HDD
X1300 Integrated graphics
Bluetooth
DVD-RW
Intel Hi-Def Audio - "2w" <------

The issue is the laptop speaker volume is really low during normal DVD/VCD playback.

I understand that we should not expect the universe from two tiny 2-watt laptop speakers, but they should at least generate enough volume audible up to distance of 3 to 4 meters away from the laptop.

When I play mp3s, the volume is quite acceptable, but with DVDs/VCDs, its really a whisper.

What can I do from here to make the audio playback experience of DVDs/VCDs better on this new swanky R61?

N.B: I have used an excellent program before called "Audio Hijack", which is for Mac OS X. It can amplify (and do many other things) the volume of the sound signals just after they come out of the sound card device of the computer. Is there anything similar for Windows? The creator of the software has made it quite clear that he has no intentions to port/develop this beautiful app for Windows anytime in the near or far future....

Try with K-lite Mega Codec Pack if your video file has low sound (it has Media Player Classic emmbeded, GUI is little old, but has many options and plays everything).... Then when you play video, right click on screen and go to options Filter->AC3Filter... There you can find a LOT of options. Just boost everything and see how it sounds.... It would be good to uninstall other video players if you install this.
